HP Pavilion x360 - 15-dq0035nr

I got this laptop from my MIL. so, I tried to factory reset it after it was running slow. Once I did that, the power button blinks but then turns solid and the screen will light up like black (not sure how to explain it) just a plain screen. But then the screen will go off again and it’ll kind of make 1 beeping sound when the screen goes off again. & the power button will start to blink again. It was working fine other than being slow before this.

Hi @allisonmcclain2

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your laptop is encountering a problem with the boot process after you tried to factory reset it. The issue with the black screen, followed by the blinking power button and beeping sound, suggests that the laptop may not be completing the boot or the factory reset process properly. This could be due to several issues, such as corrupted system files, a hardware issue, or a problem with the display.

Here’s a detailed step-by-step guide on how to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Understand the Beep Codes

The beeping sound is typically an error code. HP laptops often use beep codes to indicate specific issues. For example:

  • 1 short beep: The system is starting up normally.
  • 2 short beeps: This could indicate a memory (RAM) issue.
  • 1 long and 2 short beeps: This could indicate a display issue.
  • Continuous beeping: A sign of a critical hardware failure, such as a motherboard or RAM problem.

2. Power Cycle the Laptop

First, let's try performing a power cycle to reset the laptop:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the laptop.
  4. Plug the power adapter back in (without the battery) and try turning the laptop on again.

This will ensure that no power-related issues are affecting the boot process.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

If the power cycle doesn’t help, you can try a hard reset.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter (leave the battery out for now) and power on the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

So, this laptop was given to me by my MIL. When I first logged in, everything was fine other than it being super slow. I wanted to delete all my MIL stuff off the laptop so I went into settings and did a factory reset. I’m pretty sure the laptop has not been updated in years. When the power light is blinking, the screen like lights up but it’s still black and then once it shuts off after a few seconds, is when it gives one single like squeaky beep. & then if the screen lights up again it does the one single squeaky beep.

If I press f2 it brings me to a HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. How can I fix this. I’ve tried everything you said.

Hi @allisonmcclain2,

Thank you. Could you please run a F2 hardware test?

Take care and have a good day.

I ran a “system fast test” where everything passed. Also ran “Boot related issues” where everything passed. It says my current version is “7.6.2.0” I ran “hard drive/ssd test” where everything passed. I have ran everything. Is there anyway to set up a video chat with someone so I can show them exactly what it’s doing and they can walk me through it?
