We are facing an issue with our HP Pavilion laptop. The device is making a loud, unusual noise that resembles a “helicopter sound” during operation. This noise is persistent and is affecting the usability of the laptop.

Hi @Unify1,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion laptop is making a loud, unusual “helicopter-like” noise during operation, and this is affecting normal use. Let’s go through a few steps to help identify and reduce the cause.

Identify when the noise occurs
Note whether the sound starts during boot, while the system is idle, or under load (videos, apps, charging).
This helps determine if the noise is related to the cooling fan, hard drive, or power usage.

Check and clean the air vents
Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
Inspect the side and bottom vents for dust buildup and gently clean them using compressed air.

Place the laptop on a flat, hard surface
Avoid using the laptop on beds, cushions, or laps.
Soft surfaces block airflow and can cause the fan to spin loudly at high speed.

Check fan behavior
Listen closely to see if the noise fluctuates (speeding up and slowing down).
Rapid or uneven fan speed often indicates overheating or a struggling fan.

Monitor system temperature
Use HP Support Assistant or BIOS diagnostics to check system temperatures.
High temperatures force the fan to run aggressively, creating loud noise.

Update BIOS and drivers
Open HP Support Assistant and install all available BIOS and system updates.
Firmware updates can improve fan control and reduce abnormal noise.

Run HP hardware diagnostics
Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then select F2 – System Diagnostics.
Run the fan and system tests to check for hardware-related issues.

Check for background processes
Open Task Manager and review CPU usage.
High usage from background apps can cause constant fan noise.

Power reset the laptop
Shut down the laptop and unplug all accessories.
Hold the power button for 15 seconds, then restart the system.

I hope this helps.
