HP Pavilion Aero Laptop 13-bg0000 (982P6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I purchased my HP Pavilion Aero 13 in February 2025. I've been monitoring the battery health using Windows' built-in battery report (powercfg /batteryreport).

Initially, the Full Charge Capacity of the battery was consistently reported at 44,070 mWH (which was even slightly above the Design Capacity of 43,300 mWh). However, today for the first time the battery was drained to 5%. I then ran another battery report after the drain and it shows that the Full Charge Capacity has now dropped to 41,590 mWH.

I consider myself very careful with my battery usage (except today when I let it drained to 5%): I consistently use a cooling pad to keep the laptop cool and I make an effort to keep the  battery charge between 40% and 80% (though there are times where I let it stay on 100% overnight, but those are rare times).

Given the newness of the laptop (just 4 months old), my battery habit, and the noticeable drop in capacity, I am pretty concerned that this might indicate a defect with the battery. Is this an acceptable rate for a battery that I have been using for four months?

Thank you.

Hi @Gul4-B1ru_,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

HP Battery Health Manager:

  • Purpose: This BIOS-level setting optimizes battery health by limiting factors such as high state-of-charge, which can accelerate battery aging.
  • Usage: Adjust settings based on your use profile for better battery longevity.

HP Power Manager:

  • Purpose: This tool allows you to monitor battery health and change settings from the operating system rather than the BIOS.
  • Features: Settings include "Maximize My Battery Health" which keeps the battery at a lower state-of-charge to reduce wear.

Settings to Use:

  • Maximize My Battery Health: This setting maintains the battery at 80% of its full charge capacity to prevent overcharging and minimize wear.
  • Set Your Battery Schedule: Configure times when your computer should use battery power even if plugged in, which can help in managing overall battery health.
  • HP Intelligent Charging: Provides automatic adjustments to battery charging patterns based on historical usage to optimize battery life.

How to Set Up and Use HP Power Manager

Download and Install:

Select Optimal Battery Charge Mode:

  • Open HP Power Manager.
  • Navigate to the Battery Charge Manager tab.
  • Choose appropriate settings like 'Maximize My Battery Health' or 'Let HP Manage My Battery Charging'.

I hope this helps.

Hello!

Thank you for your detailed help. I checked the Software-Solutions category on the HP Customer Support page for my model, but I only found HP Support Assistant. There was no listing for HP Power Manager SoftPaq. Does that mean it's not available for my device? If so, is there any other way I can manage battery settings?

Thanks again for your support!

Hi @Gul4-B1ru_,

Thanks for getting back, and I really appreciate you checking the support page for your model.

Alternative Battery Management Options

1. BIOS Settings (HP Battery Health Manager)

You can still access HP's Battery Health Manager through BIOS. Here's how:

Shut down your laptop.

Press Esc repeatedly during boot-up to enter the Startup Menu.

Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

Look for the Advanced or System Configuration tab.

Navigate to Battery Health Manager (the name might vary).

Select: Maximize My Battery Health.

Save and exit.

This BIOS-level feature helps limit the state of charge to reduce long-term wear.

2. Windows Battery Saver + Usage Habits

If BIOS options are limited or unavailable:

Use Battery Saver mode in Windows (Settings > System > Power & Battery).

Avoid staying plugged in at 100% for long periods.

Try to keep battery levels between 40% and 80%, as you’ve already been doing (you're doing great! 🌟).

A drop from 44,070 mWh to 41,590 mWh (about 5.6%) over 4 months is still within a normal range, especially since Li-ion batteries naturally degrade with cycles and time.

Letting it drop to 5% once shouldn't cause major damage, but if the wear accelerates quickly in the next few months, keep monitoring it via powercfg /batteryreport and feel free to bring this up under warranty with HP Support if it crosses 10-15% degradation within the first year.

I hope this helps.
