Following 2025-01 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5050094) the webcam is no longer visible in device manager or as an options in any apps which use a camera. As a result, Windows Hello is no longer an option for logging in either.
The HP support site does not appear to list a driver to allow an attempt to reinstall it either.

Try to rollback the update. Either do a rollback of the KB update or find a restore point from when the camera was last working.
You can try the drivers I listed here but they did not on that owners Pavilion laptop.

I assume the restore itself completed but the camera did not work.
Please bring up the device manager and locate the PID and DEV numbers for your camera.
This shows how to find the Dev and Pid. You can use the Dev and Pid to (sometimes) find a driver at this site
While you are looking at the Device Manager, are there any red or yellow warning icons? Be sure to enabled the "show hidden devices" in case the camera is hidden.
If you remember when the camera last worked, you can restore your laptop to that time using a windows restore point.

see if the camera shows up when you select "Show Hidden Device"
Look in imaging, USB, biometric for the camera.
Any strange entries in the device manager? If so, use win11 snip to copy and paste so I can see it.
I am sorry this is happening and I do not understand why camera drivers are not listed for your laptop.
if still in warranty I would make start a warranty claim as that will get back to the engineers. This board is user to user.
another thought ====
HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.

Lets do a sanity check:
1 see if camera is disabled
- Look at the keyboard function keys for a camera icon such as
|
Look for privacy switch or slider
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3960099-3335046-16
2 -see if camera passes diagnostics
Have you run diagnostics? Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics.
If you do not see the webcam test then update the diagnostics:
HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically. When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics. There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS', Expand the'+'symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button. The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button. When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one. |
3 - Any unusual USB drivers installed?
These cameras run off the USB bus. Some devices may have special drivers that can interfere with the camera drivers
- Mirroring drivers for smartphones that can record a video call on your PC (yes, this happened to me on iPhone)
- USB drivers that replace winusb with driver for crypto miner that run off the USB (I've had these)
guessing: USB backup software for external drives that were designed for XP or not much thought put into the driver.

Hi, I have been reading this discussion with great interest, as my HP Pavilion X360 14-ba1xx also fails to use the installed IR Camera since 24H2 was installed.
I initially installed 24h2, read about the issues, and was able to uninstall, and the camera started to work once more. Despite disabling automatic updates, it has installed twice. I was able to uninstall, but the second time, I could not. It ended in me having to use System Recovery to reinstall windows, and it appears my 'base install' is now 24h2, and I have no way to go back.
Note, my IR Camera is simply shown in Device Manager as 'HP IR Camera, unlike the OP
I tried to find alternative drivers using your instructions, but Device Hunt only returns the Vendor ID once more (USB\ VID 04F2 & PID B593)
If have unistalled and reinstalled many times, I have removed and added Facial Recognition. If I attempt to 'Improve recognition ', I am prompted "Couldn't turn on camera. Make sure it is working properly" ...gee, thanks ...
It is noted that Microsoft recognised issues with Facial Recognition, Last updated: 2024-10-18, 14:02 PT, Opened: 2024-10-18, 13:21 PT
