255 G7

Hi,

I recently bought a 255 G7 with a Ryzen 3 CPU and FHD display. Unfortunately I was not aware of the fact that there exists a VGA webcam for this notebook.

Now I found the HD webcam as a spare part and the disassemble instructions from HP for this device.

The question is: can I simply replace the VGA webcam module with the HD one and it will work out of the box?

That is very unlikely.

Electronic modules of differing types, in your case VGA and HD modules, do not have the same pinout configuration.

So the answer is no.

Are you sure about this?

According to the exloded diagram, the cable from camera to mainboard is the same for the VGA and HD camera.

And according to the device manager, the camera is internally connected to USB.

The pictures I found for both spare parts (VGA: L20446-001, HD: L20447-001) also look the same...
