Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 (2V8Z4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

First of all, english is not my native language, so I apologize in advance for mistakes or if something I'll write won't be very clear.

At the beginning of march I bought I new laptop (HP Victus Laptop 16-e0017nl) with windows 11. Last time I've used it was march 30th and, even if I dont' remember exactly the level of the battery, it was at least 50% or more, maybe even around 70%.

I've started using it again on april 15th and, after turning it on, the battery level was at 26%. About 2 minutes later, a message came out saying that Windows would be restarted automatically. After it happened, the battery was already at 21% and, after connecting the charger, something strange happened: when I checked the level of the battery this was what I saw: "State of the battery: 0% available (connected)"

My questions are:

1) Is it possible for the battery of a basically brand new laptop, used for such short amount of time, to discharge while the laptop is turned off? It also happened that the battery lost 2-3% in one-two days while being turned off.

2) What might've happened in the episode mentioned above? I've always tried my best not to let the batter drop at 0% because I've read that it always should stay between 20% and 80% and that letting it drop at 0% makes the battery deteriorate quickier. Also, I connect the charger only when I need to charge my laptop and always disconnect it once it's done charging.

But, in this case, the battery dropped not because I waited too long before charging it, but in the weird and sudden way I've described. Furthermore, it's not the first time that a sudden message about an immediate restart pops out (I think it's the second or third time it happens). With other laptops and computers which had windows 10 this never happened.

If someone can help and explain, I'll be very grateful! I bought this laptop to do work for university which require adobe and video editing softwares: I tried my best to gain informations and talked a lot about this laptop with the shop assistant before deciding to buy it. Just thinking that it might already have problems barely a month after using it makes me quite nervous, especially because it wasn't cheap at all... So I would really like to understand if what happened is normal considering the type of laptop and windows 11 or if I really have to worry...

I also hope I asked in the right section.

Thanks to everyone!

P.S. it was about 2.15pm when I turned my laptop on and that thing happened. After about 40 minutes the battery was already at 53%. I've noticed that it doesn't take a lot of time to charge comparing to other laptop I've worked with. Is this also normal? I've also noticed that the battery dops quite quickly even when I'm not using softwares such as adobe... Like 8-10% in half an hour while just surfing internet. Am I being paranoid or is this too quick?

Hi@Stefania_B,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the Battery on the Victus By HP 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop PC.

I have a few recommendations

  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.
  • Update your Notebook computer to latest BIOS from HP.COM.
  • For Testing and Calibrating the Battery please click this link

Try changing the power mode to "Balanced" or "Better Performance" as the default setting.

Go to "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options" > "Change plan settings" > "Change advanced power settings"
Scroll down, click on "Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Setting" > "Config TDP Level",
Then select the middle value for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In".
Scroll further down. Select "Processor power management";
Then select "Maximum processor state";
Change the value from 100% to 96% for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In" options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

First, thank you very much for taking the time to read and respond.

If it's ok with you, could I ask if you can post screenshots about where to fin the TDP level? Because I can't find that option.

Also, the two questions I've asked remained kinda unanswered, so, if you have a clearer answer for those, I'd really appreciate it because I'd really like to understand what's going on.
