Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

The W key in combination with the shift key, makes pressing the z, q and 1 keys impossible (doesn't register).

But the weird thing is, ALL other keys work fine with simultaneous key pressing of 10 keys no problem. That includes combinations of keys across different groups (function keys, modifier keys, alphanumeric).

So is this a broken product? Or is there some software setting/reset that could be done?

I couldn't register the serial number, hence I selected "a product I do not own", even though I do own it. I contacted the seller about this.

Hi @Wallby,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with key ghosting or blocking on your keyboard, where specific key combinations do not register while others work without problem. This could be due to hardware limitations, as different keyboards have varying capabilities in terms of how many keys can be pressed simultaneously (known as "key rollover").

Steps to Troubleshoot and Resolve the Issue:

  1. Check for Software or Driver Updates:
    • Ensure that your keyboard drivers are up to date. Go to the Official HP® Support and look for any available updates for your specific keyboard model.

  2. Test on Another Computer:
    • Connect your keyboard to another computer to see if the issue persists. This can help identify if the problem is specific to your current setup.

  3. Check Keyboard Settings:
    • On some systems, the keyboard layout or language settings may affect key behavior. Make sure the correct layout is selected in your operating system settings.

  4. Use the Hardware Troubleshooter:
    • On Windows, you can use the built-in troubleshooter by going to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Run the troubleshooter for keyboard-related issues.

  5. Inspect for Physical Obstructions:
    • Carefully remove keycaps from the affected keys and check if there are any visible obstructions or debris interfering with the key mechanisms.

  6. Reset Keyboard Settings:
    • If your keyboard has onboard memory or settings software, try resetting it to factory defaults.

  7. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Some keyboards allow for firmware updates. Check if there's a firmware update available for your keyboard from Official HP® Support and apply it if necessary.

  8. Contact HP Support:
    • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider contacting HP Support for assistance, especially if the keyboard is under warranty. They might be able to provide further diagnostics or initiate a replacement if the keyboard is deemed defective.

If you've tried all of these steps and the issue remains unresolved, it may point towards a hardware limitation, and replacing the keyboard might be necessary if specific key combinations are critical for your tasks.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
