Restating my question here:
I have an HP 650 Notebook PC, (this is the pavilion notebook model - NOT the probook 650)
My notebook is currently running an i3-2328M CPU (socket PGA988)(HM75 Chipset).
HP Factory service manual and specifications at HP.com list i5-3210M CPU besides the i3 CPU options (in 2011/2012) however I after some research online and i found the HM75 chipset supports an i7-3520M and the i73520M has the same (socket FCPGA988) as the i5-3210M/3230M and i3-2328M.
I am hoping the i7 will work on my PC because its roughly double the performance. HOWEVER DUE TO my lack of experience and expertise, on the subject, I am worried that it may still not work on my motherboard for an odd reason.
I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND POSTING HERE FOR OTHERS TO USE BENEFIT FROM AND ALSO COLLABORATE AND ASSIST ME BY SHARING THEIR KNOWLEDGE, DO NOT EDIT OR DELETE MY POSTS! WHICH IS A VIOLATION OF 1ST AMENDMENT FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN UNITED STATES.
AGAIN my pc is not a probook, if you see my reply to your post, you find links and model serial numbers for my PC, I post also the warranty search link which then give direct link to all the manuals and specifications for my computer. There are videos on Youtube demonstrating how to replace the CPU's on the HP 650 "NOTEBOOK" consumer PC which I have. The CPU is in a socket and retained by heatsink with 4 screws.
MY PC DOES HAVE OPTION FOR 3RD GEN INTEL CORE CPU'S - ITS IN THE USER MANUALS AND HP PARTS LISTS. THE CPU IS REMOVABLE AND SOCKETED, NOT SOLDERED TO MAIN BOARD.
See this video showing CPU Upgrade to i5-3210m (on same model HP650 Notebook)
goto the 2:35 minute mark. The link should already position the video to the step.

Also, user manual is here:

goto page 1 (product description, you find the CPU's listed). among them you see here is an excerpt from the page:

ANYONE, KNOW IF YOU CAN UPGRADE TO AN i7-3520m or i7-3540m CPU on this model of HP 650 Notebook? The PC has the HM75 Express chipset, which says to support these i7 CPU's, but some people suggest it may require a BIOS update, meaning if HP did not program the support into the last BIOS release F.39 - in 2014 year, then it likely will not work, however other people have stated elsewhere that the HM75 Chipset may "natively" support the 3rd generation i7 CPU's as long as the socket style matches PGA988 aka FCPGA988 aka sometimes referred to as G2 socket and a TDP of 35Watts, which is what my current i3-2328m CPU has.
Please reply if you have every upgraded an HP650 to an i7 CPU please post here and let me know if it worked or not.
Here is a link regarding CPU's supported by the Intel HM75 Chipset
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/HM75_Express.html
Its quite extensive list of CPU's there, not all are PGA988 socket, with 35Watt TDP. but many are. including i7's
Thanks
