Compaq nc6220
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have a Compaq nc6220 laptop.  The p/n is PZ064UA#ABA.  I assume that the first section of the p/n identifies it as a nc6220 with the XGA screen (1024x768) and this version was for North America.

What I need to know is what is the part number for the nc6220 with the SXGA screen (1400x1050)?  I am looking to buy one but must be sure it is the SXGA version.

You would think that this would be a simple task but Google could not help. After 90 minutes and still nothing I decided to come here. I did find the part number for the replacemen SXGA LCD - 379793-001 it's just the part, not the laptop.

While we are at it, what is the p/n for the SXGA version of the nc6230?

So why am I so interested in the nc6220 with the high-rez screen?  My nc6220 has a 320GB hard drive, a 2.26GHz M Pentium CPU (fastest one possible), and 2GB RAM.   I boot PC DOS 7, Win7 SP1, and Linux Mint. I may upgrade to Win8.1 or Win 10 but need a higher rez screen.  I absolutely MUST have a PCMCIA/CardBus slot for what I do and the nc6220 works very well. And I can take a nc6220/6230 completely apart and put it back together and it will still work. 🙂

Thanks in advance for your help!

Part # 379793-001 is for 14.1-inch TFT SXGA+ display panel - 16.8M color support with resolutions up to 1400 x 1050 pixels, 250:1 aspect ratio - Includes internal antenna for wireless networking, ambient light sensor, and magnesium-alloy display enclosure.  There are 26 products use this same part number.

As you can see on the following link, some nc6230 machines use same part

Thanks.  I looked at your links and it doesn't identify a specific p/n that actually uses the SXGA+ screen.  For example, when I select the first nc6220 model found it takes me to a page with a whole bunch of p/ns.  My XGA p/n  (PZ064UA) is listed but it doesn't have the SXGA+ screen. So while I have a list of models that use the SXGA+ screen, I still don't have anyway to tell by the p/n if it really has the SXGA+ screen installed.

I need to know how to identify a nc6220  laptop that has the SXGA screen installed it without being able to turn it on. On the back of the nc6200 there is a white serial number label. Under the serial number on a white label is a p/n (part number) that should be abbe to identify the SXGA+ versions of the nc6220 or nc6230.

Here's one from eBay:

Does it have the SXGA+ screen?

Surly there was a list at one time that "decoded" the p/n to id the screen & cpu etc. that were installed.  I'd go broke buying nc6220 "parts" laptops hoping to find one with the SXGA screen.

Or is the screen code embedded in the serial number itself?

@Aoresteen

Your machine (PZ064UA) is one of MANY machines called nc6220/nc6230. The following link shows a list of options for each component (CPU, RAM, Display ...):

   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c00287979

Depending on option or options at that time, you should be able to buy a machine with

  14.1-inch TFT XGA (1024 x 768 resolution and 16 M colors)

or

  14.1-inch TFT SXGA+ (1400 x 1050 resolution and 16 M colors)

Now, if you wish to upgrade your machine to 14.1-inch TFT SXGA+ (1400 x 1050 resolution and 16 M colors)  you can buy it and install to your machine.
