I have an Omen 17-cb1004nw laptop and I would like to change the RAM from 2x8Gb to 2x16GB. The old RAM worked at a speed of 2933MHz, I installed GOODRAM DDR4 IRDM 16GB/ 3200 RAM and it works at a speed of only 2666MHz. What brand of RAM do you recommend to fully use the power of the laptop?

Hello 484852.

If we take a look at the official 16GB part HP offered on its PartSurfer page for the Omen 17-cb1000 series, we can see the module is a MTA16ATF2G64HZ-3G2J1.

This is a 2Rx8 16GB module with a 3200 speed made by Micron. Since Crucial is the consumer line for Micron RAM, if you can find a Crucial 2Rx8 16GB module, you're all set. On Crucial 's page for your model, we see that the SFRA32A 16GB modules it offers come in 2Rx8 or 1Rx8 versions. Nowadays there is little to no chance of actually getting a 2Rx8 module of this product line. You can, however, get the more expensive 2Rx8 "CT32G4SFD832A" 32GB modules, which are fully compatible with your system. By the way, the Omen 17-cb0000/cb1000 can be upgraded to 64GB RAM.

If, on the other hand, you don't want to go for the 32GB modules, I suggest getting the dual-rank 16GB Kingston RAM modules (KCP432SD8/16) found on Kingston 's page for your model. There is also a cheaper (Value RAM) version of these modules the "KVR32S22D8/16", but without the guaranteed compatibility of the KCPs. Finally, there's always the option of getting the official Micron RAM online, from Amazon or other sites.
