HP 2-in-1 Touchscreen laptop Intel Core i7- 16Gb memory-1TB Hard Drive-HP Finish in Natural silver
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Team,

I am planning to buy new HP laptop- 2-in-1 Touchscreen laptop- Intel Core i7- 16Gb memory-1TB Hard Drive-HP Finish in Natural silver. While screening i found that 'System Memory RAM Expandable to' 16 GB under specification section.

What does it mean ?

Presently, it's having 16 GB RAM so would i able to add another 16 GB RAM into it in future ?

If yes, will be compatible with current OS and other paramter asscoiated with this laptop ?

Regards,

Harshal

Hi Harshat,

Sorry it took a while to get back. I am in Italy and was out eating. So let us look at these two models.

So. the first

HP ENVY x360 - 15m-bp011dx

If we look in the service manual for that model on page 1 we see that the max memory is 16GB of r DDR4-2400Mhz memory (2x8GB)

The second,

HP Spectre x360 - 13-ac023dx

If we look in the service manual for that model  on page 1 we see that it comes with max 16GB of LPDDR3-1866Mhz onboard memory, which means it is not upgradeable and non replaceable. The memory is integrated (soldered) to the motherboard

The Envy has more modern memory DDR4, however since the Spectre has a PCIe SSD it will be much faster in everyday use. Boot time will be about 20 times faster. However it is possible to install a PCIe NVMe SSD in the Envy which would make it the more powerfull PC.

However you were asking about machines with lots of RAM. The HP workstation notebooks can have at least 32GB of RAM

Many of the buisness and gaming laptops also support 32GB of RAM

Hi Harshat,

It means that the max RAM is 16GB, so in the case of your model you will not be able to further upgrade. It is probably copied from other models similar to yours, as that particular series supports up to 16GB of RAM.

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks David for your valubale information.

One more query if you can address it would be great help from your end.

I have attached a snap of 2 laptopin which one is having the same "Expandable to 16GB" and another is having "-". So what is the menaning of "-" ?

Is it refer to ana nother slot of memory or not available any extra memory slot in it ?

My need is like i would like to add extra RAM in future. so need extra memory Slot.

It takes quite long for images to become visible in this forum (many hours). So if you can send me a link to the two laptops I will take a look and tell you what I think.
