pavilion dv6-2136el

Inside my Pavilion dv6-2136el there is  an unused PCIe slot

Which was the purpose of that slot ?

Can I connect something to that slot ?

Many Thanks

It might be for the optional TV tuner.

Chapter 1, page 4 of the service manual.

Look at this picture and see if the slot would accommodate that device.

It's useless without the antenna wire which I assume is not there.

Oh, I see, Thanks

DVB-T TV tuner module (select models only)

Now here the standard for TV transmissions is DVB-T and DVB-T2 so, not only the fact that there isn' t an antenna is decisive

Excuse me, do you know if that PCIe is devoted to that specific use or one other PCIe card with other functions can be installed (admmissing to find one) ?

Thanks

You're very welcome.

You are correct.

Yes, that is true.

Unless you connected a digital signal converter box to the card (which is also impossible), the card is completely useless with or without an antenna wire.

There's probably nothing else that would work in that slot, but if want to gamble good money out the window, the only device I can think of that might work in there (5% - 10% chance) would be to try a mSATA SSD in the slot.

My opinon is this:

It's a waste of money since you can just replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD and even if the card worked in the slot, it probably would not be recognized as a bootable device.

However, it definitely would be an interesting experiment.

Many Thanks

I tried to put on that PCIe slot the WiFi card I had previously on my g6 and it was recognized

obviously without aerial connection I see only my WiFi router because it is not very far from the notebook

I did't tried to connect because without aerial connected I don't want to fry the transmitter

I think I'll get one of this

https://www.ebay.it/itm/274645023826?.

https://www.amazon.it/Richer-R-Adattatore-802-11-Wireless-300-Mbit.

Now my idea is to find a broken laptop (sometimes happens to me) and to recover the aerial cables and build a pair of extensions to connect the new card to the existing antenna whose connectors are near the standard WiFi card under the SSD I installed on place of the old HDD

(I don't know if alone cables can be find on sale)

One other option will be this

You're very welcome.

That's amazing the Wi-Fi card worked and was not rejected by the BIOS.

I bought that same Wi-Fi 6E card for my HP 350 G1 and it works great.

Since you have found that there is no BIOS whitelist in your g6, is that where you are going to install the AX210 Wi-Fi card?

Unfortunately, I don't know what you will do for antenna wires or how to install them.

You need U.Fl antenna wires, I believe.  Maybe this will work?

You connect one end to the existing antenna wire and the other end to the Wi-Fi card.

WOW Thanks

Those cables are exactly what I need

I tried also this card (unlukily only 2.4GHz band) and it was accepted (works OK on reception) on the PCIe (TV socket) of the dv6 and fits perfectly because it is long as the TV card

On the g6 I had no problems with the short intel card, I tried it on the dv6 (on the WiFi PCIe socket) but it was blaklisted by the firmware of the dv6 (as all the card I've under hand) but worked fine on the TV PCIe socket

looking to the long 0984 card I decided and ordered this one 2.4GHz/5GHz for13.69€

I'll order also a pair of those cables you linked so I can solve the thing without put the hands on my iron

MANY THANKS

You're very welcome.

That's excellent you will be able to get dual band Wi-Fi on the dv6.

Yes, the Broadcom 4312 is an old model single band and the Broadcom card you're going to buy is dual band and you should get 300 MBPS out of it on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

Did you need the 2" antenna wires or the 6" antenna wires?

I had no idea how far away that slot is from the Wi-Fi card, so I figured one of those lengths would have to work.

Ciao

I need the 6", OK, 6" is a bit redundant but 2" is way short

I did al lthe orders at Amazon and I think they'll arrive friday

I can't wait to try

Thanks for the suggestions, very appreciated

Anytime.

And I can't want to read about the results of your notebook's Wi-Fi card upgrade project.
