Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am searching to include an SSD drive to my HP Pavilion.

I can see a lot of discussions and contradiction about what 960 EVO fits exactly. Some say 960 EVO m.2 PCIe NVMe can fit my laptop and the other say PCIe HVMe is not compatible and I need 960 EVO m.2 SATA and I also seen on a post that someone said that m.2 SATA can fit but you cannot boot the windows on it.

Can I have some clear information on what exactly can fit my laptop model. The budget is very limited and I cannot afford to buy SSD that cannot fit.

Thank you

Here is the Service Manual:

This is what you see when you open it:

You ask about the 960 Evo. All 960 Evo M.2 disks are the PCIe/NVME type. And I do not suggest using the 960 NVME M.2 disks. If you have to get it right the first time get a Samsung PM961 M.2 disk:

Your laptop can accept the PCIe/NVME type disks however the Samsung 960 disks have a checkered past here. Lots of users report that they are simply not compatible with HP laptops with the same specs as yours.

Lots of bad information out there but you can check my record and take my word I have actually done this upgrade on 5 HP laptops.

Post back with any questions but please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Hello,

Turned out the PM961 is out of stock is any store in my country. So I will get 960 EVO with a discussion with the guys in store for option to exchange if it's not working.

So as I see my socket supports TLC type but the 960 EVO is MLC. Would that make any problems with the compatibility of the SSD?

I will mark the topic as new for an answer.

Thank you

I think that may be the reason people are having problems with the 960 series...MLC vs. TLC but the PM961 is also MLC

Hello,

The SSD looks to be working. I've installed it and it looked to work just fine.
