HP PAvilion Gaming 15 - dk0205ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear Community,

I would like to upgrade the storage capacity of my HP Pavilion Gaming 15 - dk0205ng laptop.

The laptop has already an SSD of 512 GB installed on the m.2 slot (I bought it like this). The HDD Slot (SATA) is still free.

I now plan to boost the storage capacity with a second SSD on the SATA III connector (where the internal HDD would be connected) - I am currently looking at the Samsung 860 EVO - would be interesting to know if the community already has experience if this model is compatible.

I intended to install a 2 TB SSD in the internal HDD slot, however, in the Service Handbook of HP there is written that only a combination of 512 GB m.2 SSD plus a 1 TB HDD (I hope this is also valid for a 1TB SATA III SSD) is possible. I do not understand this limit of 1 TB. Hope the community can help and advice me, whether I can also install a 2 TB instead of 1 TB, considering that I already have a m.2 SSD of 512 GB installed , and tell me if this works based on your experience?

I would be very happy if you can provide an answer.

Thank you for your help,

Dave

That is pre-installed option you can use 2TB SSD from Samsung 860 EVO or Crucial MX500 or something else. You also need 2 parts

  •      The hard drive cable is available using spare part number L56898-001
  •      The hard drive brackets are not available as a spare part.

Both of them are new and N/A therefore you have to wait, specially the second one.

Dear Banhien,

Thank you for your fast and competent answer. I am happy that I can install a 2TB Drive !

Regarding the cables, I will check also when I open up the computer, some of the models have a dummy drive with brackets installed, I hope mine too.

Kind regards,

Sven
