Team, my wife computer is running very slow, just sent it in under the warranty and they seem to have have fixed it by wiping it completely, it only has 8GB of RAM and we want to increase it. How many Slots and what is the MAX it can hold?

Also not sure how easy it would be to perfom this.

She only uses it for teaching, Word, Excel, PP.

nothing crazy... but hoping this helps.. we paid a lot for this laptop and its TERRIBLY slow.

Thank you all for the help!

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion x360 14m Convertible PCIMPORTANT! This document is intende...

According to the manual, the max is 12 GB, but that can't be right.

If the notebook can support 8 GB of memory in one slot, then it can support 8 GB of memory in the other slot.

This would be a compatible 8 GB memory chip for your notebook.

hi Paul, thank you so much..

do i have 2 slots? and if so what would happen if I was to add 2  (8GB) Chips?

I am hoping to speed up her computer so that she can continue to use it effectively.

You're very welcome,

Your notebook has two memory slots.

What I don't know is if HP installed a 4 GB memory chip in each slot, or if they installed one 8 GB memory in one slot, and the other one is empty.

It is easy enough to figure that out.

Run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below, and it will show you the memory configuration...two x 4 GB or one x 8 GB.

If 2 x 4 GB, then in order to max the memory out, you will need to buy two of the 8 GB memory chips from the link I posted.

If 1 x 8 GB, then you just need to order one of the 8 GB memory chips from the link I posted and install it in the empty memory slot.

thank you so much, my next question would be how easy is the install of the new RAM?

2ND if i buy another 8 with 1 (8) already installed will this comp only recognize the additional 4 for a max of 12, or will it not work at all? or can this PC hold the 16?

You're very wecome.

I am very sure that 16GB (2 x 8 GB) will work fine.

That has to be some kind of mistake in the service manual.

You can always do this to confirm how much memory your PC can support...

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity and hit enter. There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

As far as how difficult it would be to replace the memory in your notebook, unfortunately I would have no idea.

Chapter 5 has the memory removal and replacement procedure.

Removing the bottom cover will be the most difficult part.

These videos may also be of help...I could not find a video for replacing the memory.
