I need to replace the battery in my HP Envy Notebook - 17-u273cl. I’ve been told that 849315-856 and 849314-856 are valid HP part numbers for two different batteries that will work in this computer. Which one is better? When I google those part numbers, it brings up various vendors who call it a SG03XL battery. Is SG03XL the same battery as 849315-856 and 849314-856, or is SG03XL a cheap fake? How much should I expect to pay for one that is an authentic, HP-authorized battery, not a fake? I’m just trying to find out what battery I need and how to ensure getting an authentic, correct, reliable one. Thanks.

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!
Your HP ENVY - 17-u273cl (2EW63UA) requires this battery, with p/n: 849315-856 "3C BATTERY 61WH 5.36Ah LI SG03061XL-PR".
You can buy a quality SG03XL replacement battery online, such as this Amazon purchase example: https://www.amazon.com/849048-421-HSTNN-LB7E-HSTNN-LB7F-849315-856-849314-850/dp/B095YM96KF/ref=sr_1....
Hope this was helpful.

Thanks. It's not clear from your reply whether the SG03XL is the same battery as 849315-856, or is it a substitute? I only want the real thing, not a fake. I see some online around $30 and others $110. I'm guessing anything around $30 is fake. Is SG03XL just another name for the 849315-856, or is it a different battery made by a different company than the 849315-856?

The "SG03XL" designation pertains to the notebook battery model HP used for your laptop.
Point is, HP no longer manufactures, stocks, or sells the original (OEM) battery for your laptop, so "the real thing", as you call it, is simply no longer available.
That leaves you -and many others, including myself (I got a legacy HP laptop too) with non-OEM parts: indeed, substitutes. Fortunately, many non-OEM HP parts match or even exceed the original manufacturing specs.
Meaning, I would not hesitate to purchase the battery purchase example I provided in my previous post if I had your laptop.
Here is another outstanding SG03XL battery purchase example -slightly more expensive: Amazon.com: Dentsing SG03XL 849048-421 849314-850 Laptop Battery for HP Envy M7 17T-U100 Series M7-U....
There is no way you should spend even close to $110 for this battery.
