Alright, so I recently found this old laptop, the HP Pavilion g7-1205sg and thought that it was pretty neat, so in order to have a use out of it still I want to upgrade it, as I saw it seemed relatively easy in disassembly and reassembly, at least compared to newer notebooks. I know the APU socket and found that my best option for APU upgrade would be to go with the AMD A8-3550MX with it's 2,0GHz speed. Along with that I will be installing an SSD instead of the hard drive that came preinstalled.
My question is what the maximum RAM in this configuration would be?
The product page states that the maximum is 6GB of RAM, but since I'll be upgrading the APU as well, does that change anything? I was hoping to get 16GB into this thing, since that would be optimal for my everyday use, 8GB would still be acceptable but anything below that and I'll probably never end up using it, which would be a shame in my opinion. So yeah, anyone got any advice/knowledge to share?

Hi:
Chapter 1, page 4 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 4 GB.
I doubt it would support more than that, but you can do this to confirm...
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
