Please what 2m ssd drive can i put in mine HP Pavilion 15 cs0013nw. I was looking for information about the maximum capacity of the disk and the interface, but I did not find any specific information (the website with instructions does not work). I tried with KINGSTON NV2 2TB SSD drive but it doesn't work. Maybe it's because of PCIe 4.0 in this KINGSTON, or  maybe I should install a 2m SSD with SATA 3.  Please help.

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the service manual, HP offered NVMe SSD's up to 512 GB in the model series.

I'm surprised the NVMe SSD didn't work and even though the M.2 slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0, the Gen 4.0 should have been backward compatible.

You may want to install either 2.5" or M.2 SATA SSD instead.

Even the Crucial SSD report indicated that NVMe SSD's are supported in the model series.

This related post from another forum member indicates they tried a NVMe SSD in their 15-cs0xxx notebook and it didn't work either, and it was only 240 GB.

That leads me to believe that NVMe SSD's are not supported in the model series and the service manual and Crucial are incorrect.

Thank you very much for help. In the meantime, I thought that maybe it was the processor's fault and I found something like this.

Expansion Options
PCI Express Revision 3.0
PCI Express Configurations ‡ 1x4, 2x2, 1x2+2x1 and 4x1
Max # of PCI Express Lanes 12

That's why I thought maybe pcie gen 3.0 would work. I also saw a video on YouTube with a tutorial on SSD M2 Gen 3.0 250 GB, but without proof that the drive actually works. It's a pity because SATA 3 is much slower

You're very welcome.

I agree with you that a NVMe SSD would be considerably faster than a SATA one, and I still don't understand why a NVMe SSD won't work,

Now this is interesting...this guy installed a Samsung 970 NVMe 500 GB SSD in their 15-cs0xxx notebook and reported that it worked just fine.

Is it possible that the PC is very picky about what model NVMe SSD's it will support?

Here's a YouTube video where it looks like the person removed the HP OEM SATA SSD and replaced it with a better performing WD Black model.  You can see the two notches in the drive he removed, so it was a SATA drive, not NVMe.

So, the 15-cs0xxx model series must support NVMe SSD's but they may only support a certain storage capacity and certain well known brands.

Tomorrow I will try to install a drive with a smaller capacity, but today I checked the KINGSTON NV2 2TB SSD on another laptop and it works.

Looking forward to reading about your results.

Today I installed KINGSTON NV2 1TB SSD and it works. However, I'm not sure if it's a capacity problem or HP has some strange settings. Before installing the new disk, I removed the old HDD ( 1 TB)  that was installed at the factory. I saw that the new disk was working and I immediately installed Windows. After installing Windows, I connected the HDD to a USB cable to format it. Everything worked, so I installed the hdd in its place. And now the best part, the old hdd doesn't work. I thought maybe I had damaged the tape, but no. I checked on another hdd ( 500 GB)  and the tape works. Any idea why the drive works when connected to a USB cable but not after installing it inside? I'm asking because it's strange and because I would prefer to have more capacity and the second HDD (500GB) is a bit larger than the factory one.

Hi:

Glad that the NVMe SSD works but unfortunately, I wouldn't know why you can't find the 1 TB HDD in Windows explorer.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if it shows up in the disk management utility and you may have to initialize the drive.

If you have already done that then I don't know what the problem could be.
