Elitebook 8440p
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I need to upgrade the drive in my wife's notebook. I'd like to go to a 1TB or larger, but they get thicker as the capacity increases. Anyone know the maximum thickness I can put in there?

Update: I kept poking around and found this answer myself: 9.5mm is the height of the drive that comes standard. But I don't see what SATA level the 8440p supports. Will a SATA III work, or do I have to back down to a lower/slower level?

There are few generations of HP Elitebook 8440p but it is safe to use 9.5mm 2.5" HDD on this machine. It supports

    9.5-mm, 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives

and SATA III is fine, SATA III is backward compatible with lower SATA vesrions. Nearly all standard 2.5" HDD'a now are from 7mm to 9.5mm thickness including 2TB HDD's. Few very high capacity HDD's can get thickers.
