My 7-year-old HP Pavilion former laptop bit the dust and I had to buy a new one. During my research, I noticed that, now, there are the so-called HP Victus models, which didn't exist 7 years ago (as far as I am aware of). What is the audience/purpose of the Victus models? They seem to be advertised as gaming laptops, which is also true for Pavilion.

The devil is in the details. Pavilions are generally not actually gaming laptops. Pavilion is the mainstream HP consumer laptop. Envy is more business. Victus laptops are intended to be gaming machines but how well they will perform depends on the CPU and more importantly the GPU. Some Pavilions will have hardware that makes it possible to game on them, too.
