HP ENVY Laptop 17m-ae0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP ENVY Laptop 17m-ae0xx with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2904 Mhz; 16 GB RAM. BIOS Version: Insyde F.04, 5/22/2017. I would like to swap out the internal HDD (7200 RPM SATA per the HP manual) and install a 1 TB or 2 TB SSD Drive. My questions are can I upgrade to a 2TB SSD drive? What are the best brands for compatibility? And, does my laptop have two HDD bays - whereby I could re-purpose the internal HDD as a second drive in the second bay?

In order to check the compatibility, I would recommend you go through the Maintenance and Service guide of your notebook. Here you will find the list of parts which are tested and compatible with your notebook.

As per the documentation, this PC can accommodate up to 1TB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 solid-state drive. The Notebook has 2 HDD bays which can accommodate up to 256 GB PCIe NVMe Value solid-state drive + 1TB (7200) hard drive

Refer to, Chapter 1. Product description - Page number 2

Illustrated parts catalog - page number 33

Please note, these are the parts which are tested on your PC, If you wish to try other parts you can try it at your own discretion, HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance.

Regarding this part - 2TB SSD drive -If you wish to try you can try at your own discretion.

Alternatively, you could replace the part on your own, use the HP Partsurfer to identify the part: Click here & order it via the HP Parts store (Click here).

Let me know how this goes.
