DV6 laptop (or laptops in general)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have owned HP laptops for over twenty years. I've recommended them to friends and family. I have been able to successfully troubleshoot my own laptops, as well as those of friends and family, with the help of the online support from HP. Frequently, I would need info on a particular laptop, and all I had to do was go to the HP support, put in a serial number, or maybe just a model number, and get copious data on that laptop. Things like detailed specs, parts lists, and upgrade or replacement parts.
Now, it seems that that information is lost, hidden, or just plain deleted, since I can no longer find it anywhere on the HP website. True, some of the laptops for which I'm seeking info are the older ones - maybe the data has been depreciated, since HP may not be able to afford the storage space. Or maybe the info IS available, and I'm getting too old and senile to navigate a website - no matter how convoluted.
In any case, the support on the website has become less than useless for me (and my cadre of friends and family), and, as much as I dislike the idea, may have to resort to supporting some other manufacturer(s).
Oh, well.., the times they are a'changin'...

Unfortunately, HP has a policy of retiring support for consumer class notebooks that have reached 10 years of age.

Who knows why they have this policy?

Dell doesn't.  I can get drivers for Dell PCs going back into the 1990s.

If you need help finding something for your dv6, I may be able to help you, but I would need to know what it is you are looking for and the model number or product number of your dv6.

It takes a lot of time and detective work to scour the internet to find things for older HP consumer class PC's but it is usually doable one way or the other.

Thanks for the response. I sorta assumed as much but just needed to vent rather than running a few laptops through the wood chipper. Most often these days, I'll pull the bottom off of a laptop, put as much memory into it as possible, maybe swap the HDD for an SDD, where possible, and load up a nice, fresh Linux install. Throw on the latest version of LibreOffice, and 90% of the folks I know will live happily ever after.

And, of course, avoiding computers altogether has become a more appealing pastime, here in my dotage.

Thanks, again.
