Hello everyone.
I am currently using hp pavilion 15-cc561st laptop. I had some issues while starting up Windows and some demanding Engineering softwares like MATLAB. It also lags everytime when I am using different softwares at the same time.
What do you suggest me to do? Which one of these should I upgrade first, add an SSD to the current 1TB HDD or should I add another 8GB DDR4 RAM to the system or do both at the same time, so that I won't have starting up and running smooth problems.
Please, I am dying here, I need your help.

Hi,
I would upgrade to an SSD first. It will give a great boost to the everyday performance of the notebook. Matlab does not really need a lot of "power" so the SSD will speed things up in general. Naturally, if you are using simulation software with things such as the dynamics of fluids, some extra RAM would be good. If you insert an extra 8GB in the empty slot it will run in dual channel mode for a little extra speed.
So, SSD
You will need to check if the M2 slot is present on the motherboard. Sometimes notebooks that did not come with M2 SSD are missing the actual slot.
On page 37 of the service manual you can see how to remove the bottom cover to take a look.

If the slot is there you can install an M2 SATA3 SSD of your preferred brand and capacity.
Example
If the slot is not present you can replace the 2.5" Hard Drive with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD
Example
You can create a USB drive that you can use to reinstall Windows
Here you can see some compatible RAM

Yes, you can insert an M2 SATA3 (not PCIe NVMe) of your desired brand and capacity.
It will give a real noticeable boost to the performance of the PC.
See how it works, you can always upgrade the RAM at a later date.
Take care,
David
