Just bought a used Elite Book 8440p. I need to know what type PCMCIA card it accepts.

Not PCMCIA....those have not been on laptops in a good 12 years. The laptop has an Expresscard 54mm slot which looks quite a bit like a PCMCIA card slot but is a bit different. It's right above the headphone jacks.
This is a USB 3.0 Expresscard 54:
The laptop does not have usb 3.0 so this kind of card would add that function.
TV tuners, card readers, external video cards, all kinds of Expresscards. Expresscard has now disappeared and new laptops don't include it but the cards are still available. PCMCIA was equivalent to the old ISA and PCI slots in a desktop; Expresscard is equivalent to the PCI-e slot.
