HI All,
I would like to install an M.2 SSD into my laptop and run the OS from it but i am getting mixed infomation from my internet searches on what type of SSD my laptop will take.
I am a very experianced PC maker and user (25+ years) so I just need to know the following before I buy a drive and strip my laptop down.
does my laptop have an M.2 socket? and if it does what interface is it (PCIe/NvM or SATA)? Will i need to buy a drive on a HP whitelist or will any NvME/SATA drive work (depending on the interface type)
Regards

The series does support dual storage options for machines with Ryzen, Athlon, and A9 processors (as on page 2 of the manual). Your machine has AMD Ryzen™ 5 2500U Quad-Core (2 GHz base frequency, up to 3.6 GHz burst frequency, 6 MB cache) processor that means you can have both M.2 SATA SSD and normal 2.5" HDD/SSD.
It has 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA now, you can add M.2 SATA SSD using Crucial MX500 or Samsung 860 EVO series or similar from other vendors. For example the following drives are compatible

You can buy from Crucial UK
Regards.

HI Again all,
Doing a bit more research I think i have found my answers in the HP service & Mantainence guide which confirms that my laptop will indeed take a NvME SSD however it has raised another question which i cannot fimd the answer too,
I was hoping to keep the 1TB HDD in the laptop as well as the SSD however looking at the service manual it appears that the SSD & HDD go in the same place which makes me think you can only have one of the other.
Can someone please tell me if this is the case or can i have both?
Regards
Paul
