I was wondering how I could find what type of PCI-E my M.2 slot has. I wanted to buy a Samsung M.2 NVME but I saw it was PCI-E 4. I know its fast, but its pointless if the laptop only has PCI-E 3, then I might as well buy a PCI-E 3 version.
Does anyone know?

Hi:
Based on your notebook's processor specs, the NVMe slot is Gen 3.0

Hi, @Kenpachi2022 your laptop uses the "PCIe, NVMe, M.2 2280 solid-state drives" meaning that "1 TB, PCIe, TLC" can be configured on the system making it so it uses a PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD and also A PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD will work in a PCIe 4.0 M. 2 motherboard slot at PCIe 3.0 speeds. PCI-Express versions are backward and forward compatible, meaning that you can use a PCIe 3.0 storage device in a PCIe 3.0 or PCIe 2.0 system.
You can take a look at your service manual for more information.

Thank you for your help but this is confusing me. Does my HP Omen 15 have a PCI-E 4.0 slot or a PCI-E 3.0 slot?
I know its backwards compatible, but I dont want to buy a M.2 PCI-E 4.0 SSD if it cant fully make use of it in case it's a PCI-E 3.0.
