I am trying to determine if the system board in my ProBook 650 G4 notebook can be upgraded to a i7 CPU to make it Windows 11 compatible. Unfortunately, I cannot determine exactly what the current system board specs are. Can you tell me how/where I can definitively get this information?

Hi mate, i have an Intel Motherboard and found out the type by using free software called Glary Utilities 5. I have used it for years and if you go into the advanced tab it will show some details on your motherboard. And of course if you go to the HP website you can download their assistant software that scans your system and will give you quite a bit of information on your pc.
Hope this helps

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Your HP ProBook 650 G4 notebook can be upgraded to an 8th-Gen Intel Core processor, which would make your notebook Windows 11 "approved", specifically:
Reference: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05951126.pdf.
HOWEVER, since these processors are hard-soldered onto these system boards, you would have to purchase a different system board, such as HP p/n: L24854-601, which is fitted with an Intel i7-8850H, such as seen here in this purchase option: HP ProBook 650 G4 Intel i7-8850H 2.6GHz Motherboard L24854-601 6050A2930201 | eBay.
Even though this is doable, and a legacy HP computer upgrade aficionado like myself wouldn't mind in the least, this conversion project will likely not be without its challenges. -Perhaps it is time to allow your current notebook to retire, and to consider purchasing a new(er) notebook model?
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,
