Hi @Scm7,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is not charging when plugged in, here are the key steps to diagnose and fix the issue:
1. Basic Checks
- Ensure the charger is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
- Try a different power outlet to rule out wall socket issues.
- Check if the charging light (LED) on your laptop is on or blinking.
- Inspect the charger and cable for any visible damage or fraying.
2. Hard Reset (Power Reset)
Sometimes, a power reset resolves charging detection issues.
Steps:
- Power off the laptop.
- Disconnect the charger.
- If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it.
- Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery (if applicable), reconnect the charger, and turn on the laptop.
3. BIOS Restore
1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
