I'm repairing an HP Pavilion 17-f023cl. I just installed windows 8.1 pro with a new hard drive. Since I had to take the front off to insert the new hdd, naturally I had to unplug some of the ribbon cables for the dvd drive, keyboard and so on. I powered it on a few times to restart it because I was installing drivers. As I'm closing the top of it to re-seal it and screw it back into place, I make sure it powers on. It will not power on now at all.
I have tried removing the cable, switching it around, trying a different cable from a different laptop, removing the battery and the charger, everything you could think of. It's not under warranty so HP support didnt help me at all. I'm at a loss for what to do in this situation. Any help would be appreciated.

> Where Can I Find A Replacement Ribbon Cable For The Power Button ?
See: http://PartSurfer.HP.COM and enter your model-number and your country, and do a search, to get a list of parts.
See if your particular part can be purchased through HP.

Did you accidentally "pinch" something when you were placing the "top" back into place? Or, screwing it in?
Did you "torque" the motherboard, when screwing it together?
Does the ON/OFF button "travel" when you press it? Or, make a "click" sound?
Can you bypass the ON/OFF button, and directly power-on the computer?
i hope this helps.

I Unscrewed the power button pcb from the plastic button itself. I connected the ribbon cable countless times. I was very careful with everything. I just noticed the metal contacts for both sides of the cable are damaged so that must be it. I must of not noticed it before because they are so small. But atleast I wasn't off in my assumption of the cable.
