I bought this laptop from a friend, didn't know it was missing parts. I've recently purchased a hard drive but, the hard drive is missing a sata cable or connector that plugs into the HD itself and the other end plugs into the motherboard. It seems like a 15-7 pin plugs that goes to the HD. I cannot fonf this part anywhere, also I need the HD caddy. Any suggestions....????

Hello @SixSix,
You'll most likely need these two parts:
Hard Drive Brackets - L19469-001
Hard Drive Cable - L23889-001
Installation procedures can be found here.
You can then use the HP Spare part number(s) in the HP Parts store here. You may also be able to find it elsewhere on the Internet.
The problem is that these parts with the L are new and are not currently available. You may need to wait a bit, unfortunately.
Kind regards,
Eddy

Hi,
The part number for the cable is L23889-001 and are nearly impossible to find (at least at a decent prize).
However, what you could do and save the money for the cable is to install an M2 SATA3 SSD or much faster M2 PCIe NVMe SSD in the M2 slot on the motherboard. This will also give a great performance boost to the notebook. First, check and see if the slot is present on the motherboard as sometimes notebooks that did not come with M2 SSD are missing the physical slot.
So, remove bottom cover (page 31 of service manual).

The M2 slot should be next to where the hard drive was.
M2 slotYou will need to install the OS on the SSD. You can download media creation tool from Microsoft on different PC, run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. You do not need product key, as the key is embedded in firmware and Windows 10 will automatically activate once installed and connected to internet.

You can find any missing drivers and software on the HP support page for your model:
Hope it helps,
David
