Elitebook 2760p
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I've been looking everywhere online for a HP Elitebook 2760p trackpoint cap, the rubber cap for the middle of the keyboard. Mine broke, and the hard plastic trackpoint stick hurts my finger.

I've just finished talking with Karina in the HP Live chat support, she requested my phone number, email and part number and told me that I can find these in the HP Parts website and provided a link to the website. I went to the HP Parts website, and they do not have it.

If anyone can point me to where I can buy this please do, or tell me a work-around way to using the trackpoint without hurting my finger. I've tried a rubber glove, but it's uncomfortable. I've tried to glue a pencil eraser to the trackpoint stick but it eventually falls off, as does hot glue.  I've ordered some trackpoint caps but they are too small and don't fit this laptop.

Look on eBay for a replacement keyboard for your computer. Probably inexpensive, and you can ask the seller if the "cap" is in good condition before you bid/buy.  It's not too difficult to disconnect the current keyboard, if you want to do it yourself, but a qualified computer technician should be able to replace the keyboard, in 30 minutes, for their "minimum" charge ($25? $30?).

There's no way to just buy the cap alone? I can't go buying a new keyboard just for a cap, it's a waste of resources. There's got to be a way to obtain a replacement cap, why would HP make it so difficult?

So, for about $12 US, you can have a new cap, mounted on a (near) new keyboard.

Go for it.  :generic:

I appreciate the research and effort put in to try to help so much. Thank you, but I can't justify within myself spending that much for a rubber cap when that's all I need. HP should supply the trackpoiint caps alone, or have a way to supply them through a third party. It is a part of the machine that will likely wear out often, it seems irresponsible in my opinion for them to not have a way to buy them cheap/alone.

Thanks again so much for the time and effort, but I will try making my own trackpoint cap, and will remember this in the future when making my next computer purchase decision.  I love HP's hardware but this is really irresponsible of them.

You can buy some cheap ones off of ebay like these here.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10pcs-Rubber-Mouse-Pointer-TrackPoint-Blue-Cap-for-HP-COMPAQ-Laptop-Noteb...

They were horrible. However I noticed that they were a lot higher than the original (and the hole was much deeper than the original). So what I did was trim the new one with scissors until the hole on the original and the new one were the same depth. This made it work perfectly. And even if it doesn't work on the first try, you get like 10 for 1 pound. I'm sure there's something similar for the US as well. Basically check on ebay for the cheapest HP trackpoint thing.
