I received a message saying my battery may need replacing and I would like to confirm what exactly to order, where to order it from (a reputable source), and whether there are any specific tutorials I should be following.

Relevant information is as follows:
HP ENVY x360 Convertible
Model15-cn0003ca
SN# [personal info removed]

I'm 4 years into a data-based PhD and have got a lot of software etc. linked to this specific product, so very invested in keeping it in the best shape possible.

This is your Service Manual and p. 29 covers battery replacement:

 

Manual 

 

3-cell, 52-WHr, 4.55-AHr, Li-ion battery (includes cable) L09281-855

 

Battery is described above. 

 

Genuine new L09281-855 916814-855 battery for HP envy x360 15-bp008no 15-bp0xx | eBay

 

See above. If you are willing to take a "compatible" non-HP battery you might save a bit of money and can search amazon or other sites using the HP Part No. Post back if you need any more help and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
