According to the HP Maintenance & Service guide, NVMe, PCIe, SATA3 and NVMe M.2 SSD drives are compatible.
Before pulling the trigger on a purchase, I would open the notebook to take a look and verify that the M.2 slot is present.
I just took a look at the Crucial Memory website.

According to them, there are only SATA3 2.5" SSD drives that are compatible. I would believe I Crucial website.

PCI express 3.0 x4 is just an indicator of the number of lanes that the PCIe Express slot uses.
I was poking around and found a thread where one of our member HP Experts was asked the very same question. It does appear that the Maintenance & Service guide is giving conflicting information.
Crucial Memory states that they guarantee SATA3 SSD as being compatible, not NVMe. I would tend to believe what Crucial memory states over the Maintenance & service Guide. They test what works.
