Solved!

Which RAM and SSD brand does HP recommend?

HP Recommended
HP Notebook bs146tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I wish to upgrade the built in Hard disk to a Solid State Drive. I'd like to know if it recommend to do so and if 'yes,' which brand SSD does HP recommend?

In addition to the above I also wish to upgrade my RAM and I have the same question, 'Which brand does HP recommend?'

Waiting for a reply.

Regards.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

HP does not recommend upgrade parts. Your question rather should be what will work well?

See p. 45 for the start of instructions to remove the back cover and access the memory slots and location for an SSD. This is what it looks like:

RAM = red circle SSD = green squareRAM = red circle SSD = green square

You do want to open the laptop before buying anything just to be sure it is as shown above. memory is DDR4-2400 and right now you have a single 4 gig so adding another 4 gig module will be a major improvement and not very expensive. The existing memory is very likely Samsung or Hynix and either of these will work fine or other name brand standard memory.

You need a SATA type 2280 form factor M.2 SSD like this:

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the  info you needed.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply Huffer. I have just one last question instead of adding another 4GB RAM is it okay if I remove the existing RAM and replace it with a Single channel 8GB RAM?

Shall wait for your reply.

Regards.

That would work but your system will perform better with a pair of 4 gig modules rather than a single 8 gig.

Kudos to you for all your help! I have one more question, if that's the case then is it okay if the 2 4GB RAM are of different MT/S?

That could be a problem. I would need to know details. Likely could mix 2400 and 2666 but not always.
