I have a hp 15q-ds3001TU laptop. I recently got to know that it has one extra M.2 slot for a SSD. I checked online for SSDs and came across 2 types of SSD. M.2 NVME SSD (M key slot) and M.2 Sata SSD (B+M key). I don't know which one will be compatible with my Laptop and confused which one of them to buy since these SSDs are non refundable on Amazon.
Can someone please help me find which type of SSD would be supported by my machine?

Your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports NVMe SSDs.
I don't know what capacity drive you are looking for, but this is a popular model in the 500 GB capacity that should work for your notebook:
Below is the link to the service manual:

I'm not 100% sure.
The service manual is for the much older 15q-ds0xxx model series, and it indicated that both SATA and NVMe SSDs were supported.
Unless you have a M.2 SATA SSD you already want to use, I don't know why you would want to install a M.2 SATA SSD when a M.2 NVMe SSD is up to 5 x faster, but that's up to you.
I would not buy one if you don't have one.
If you have a M.2 SATA SSD available, give it a try.
It won't hurt anything.
If it works, great.
If not...buy a NVMe SSD instead.
