Hi, how do I know which ssd m2 is compatible with my pc?

I already tried a ssd samsung MZVPW256HEGL, but I noticed that it is not recognized by the system.

I would not spend money to do some testing, but know the right one for my laptop

note

Notebook HP Pavilion - 15-p258nl (ENERGY STAR)

Serial                             5CD4495BYJ

I have already consulted the instruction booklet and went on the Internet, but I did not find anything about it,

As long as it is a Sata M.2 drive, 300 or 500 should not matter.

The 500 is a newer model. The 300 will probably be a little cheaper and I would stay with that if you can.

Did you look up the specs in the Maintenance Manual?

Page 3 of the hardware list shows it will only accept M.2 Sata drives.

The samsung MZVPW256HEGL is an NVMe drive.

Two completely different types of M.2 drives which would explain why it didnt work.

Know that HP only recommends what they sell since that's the only drive that's been tested to work in their systems.

With that said...

Crucial MX300 M.2 Sata drives have not had any issues with HP systems and I would have no reservations about recommending those.

Thats the best I can do for you. Hope it helps.

I have consulted the instruction booklet, and says nothing about it

my connector on the motherboard and the type [M] has only one notchm.2-connectors-m-b.jpg

I gave you the link to the manual to read. It clearly states M.2 Sata on page 3.

On the Sata based (double slotted) drive, you would use the B key (six pins) for the notch in the M.2 slot on the motherboard.

You can go to Page 78 for further info also.

then installing a crucial mx300 m.2

even if it has 2 notches I can install on the 1-pin connector?
Without having problems

What do you mean by one pin connector? If you mean the M.2 slot on the underneath of the motherboard, then yes.

The double notch drive will work as a sata drive.

You insert the B key (six pin) side into the notch of the M.2 connector.

Like this example, but use the B key side for the one notch.

Look at page 78-79...

Yes, yes. Excuse me for English I'm Italian and help with the translation.
In reality and as you described in the picture, I understood.
so I can mount as a crucial mark only mx300, because I saw that there are other models mx500

Do you have someone helping you install Windows?

If you are going to clean install Windows 10 to this SSD drive, you will want to disconnect the old HDD (hard drive) first.

Then the operating system will need to be wiped from the HDD or you will have issues booting. Or you can install a blank HDD if you rather.

Let us know if you need further help when the time comes.
