My new external floppy drive requires power from the USB port. I have 3 ports on my computer: one on the right, marked with the USB symbol, and two on the left, which have "SS" beside the USB symbol. I don't know which supplies power.
Initially I plugged the floppy drive into the port at right (next to the cd drive) and it worked fine, but apparently it drained the power supply on the external drive. Now the led light won't come on and the drive doesn't register under "My PC" when I plug it in (although it makes a ding as though it is connected). I tried the two USB ports on the left, and again, it made a sound when it connected but did not register under "My PC" and the light did not come on.
Can anyone help?

Hi:
Chapter 2 of the service manual does not show any of the USB ports provide power.

I have an external USB DVD drive, and the plug has two USB pigtails so that if the DVD drive needs additional power I plug both of the USB connectors into 2 adjacent USB ports.
