Hi Banhien.
Thanks for your reply.

Yes, it says HP Docking Station and HP Advanced Docking Station Support in the manual.
However it looks as if there are different version.
Here:
https://pcb.inc.hp.com/webapp/#!/ww-en/contents/6978814?type=M&hierarchy=F&status=L&status=O
I found out that HP 230W Docking Station A7E34AA and HP 230W Advanced Docking Station A7E38AA are the right onces!

Yes. The ZBook also has an M.2 port. In the manual on page 45, I can see the spare part (795955-001) for the M.2 port. A search leads me to:
https://drivesolutions.com/hp-795955-001-256gb-pcie-gen-2-x2-m-2-ngff-2260-solid-state-drive.html
So I assume the port is a PCIe 2.0 x2, M.2 form factor, and has size 22 x 60 mm (2260).

When I search for M.2 2260 SSD, either I get results which are really expensive or sold out.
The newer chips all seem to be 2280 chips. And they don't fit in the ZBook.

So I will have to stick with mSata or find a used 2260.

Thanks for the help!

cmdr_x, in these cases we usually buy a smaller more available SSD (2242 are very common and cheap) and use an Extender adapter or find another  makeshift way to get it to stay in place.

Hi TzortzisG.

Yes, that seems to be a good solution!

Thanks for the input!

Finding compatible components to upgrade these old workstations needs a lot of research Cmdr_x. This discussion is a good place to start, I believe: zBook G2 Owners - Alternatives to "Z Turbo Drive" (notebookreview).

At the time HP used 2lane B+M PCIe drives, but users found out plain 4lane M-key PCIe drives work, at the same limited speeds as the original drives. Booting from the PCIe drives is also a challenge. Workarounds must be used. Personally, in cases like these, I prefer just having the bootloader on the 2.5" drive.

Have fun upgrading!

Yeah, I thought it wouldn't be a problem to find a 2260 M.2 chip.
I got the ZBook 5 years ago from a second hand business laptop dealer. It came with a SanDisk 256GB M.2 chip, I assume it is the original one which was delivered when the computer was new. It is the only storage I have in the laptop and it boots the OS just fine.

The question I could not really answer yet is, how fast is this Gen M.2 port?
Is it the same speed as the SATA port for the 2.5" SSD, like 6gb/s?

By the way. How do I give Kudos? I can not find a button...
