I notice that there is space for a SATA HDD but no connector in the HP Pavilion - 15-cw0509sa .
Do HP take the environmentally friendly route and sell the boards and brackets directly or do I need to go to a 3rd party? If so, does anybody know what models are compatible with this laptop and where the best place is to get them (UK)?

Hi,
This is what you need:
Hard drive brackets part number L19469-001
Hard drive cable part number L23889-001
Not available in the HP parts store. You can try official reseller in the UK
https://uk.eetgroup.com/search?query=L23889-001
or perform an online search with the part number.
On page 45 of service manual, you can see the steps to install the drive
For about the same price as the cable, brackets and HDD you could just upgrade the M2 PCIe NVMe SSD to one of your desired capacity and reinstall the OS on it.
Example:
https://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/pavilion-15-cw0509sa/CT13045327
Hope it helps,
David

Thanks so much for your fast and detailed reply! Those M2 SSDs have plummeted in price lately too - thanks for the link to the Crucial. I have an existing 1TB Samsung SSD I'd like to reuse, but this throws a (nice) spanner in the works.
All the best!
