Hi,
I have a HP Envy X360 laptop which is 5 months old. And it makes whirring and occasional clicking sound. I searched over the forum and found that this is a fairly common. So, I followed some steps and my BIOS is up to date. Did some tune up checks and troubleshooting that was avaiable in HP support software. Didn't help.
Can someone please suggest if this could be a probelm with the Hard disk?
And best way to clean a laptop vent.
Cheers,
As Is

Hi! @As_Is,
Please share the product number of your PC to assist you better.
Try muting the speakers and check if you hear the clicking noise from the PC.
Try the steps recommended below.
In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.
In Control Panel, search for Power, and then click Choose a power plan in the Search results.
In the Choose a power plan window, click Change plan settings next to the plan that you wish to change.
In the Change settings for the plan window, click Change advanced power settings.
In the "Advanced settings" power options go to "Processor power management > select Maximum processor state" and change it from 100% to 99%.
Click on apply or ok and restart your PC. Check if the issue persists.
Also, try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.
1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Lastly, try running a hard drive test from the system diagnostics page, and check if the hardware components on the PC are functioning correctly.
