Why is it so difficult to order a battery?

I have an HP Pavilion, am logged into the HP web site and have tried several times to search for a battery. It's coming up that one is not available. My laptop is only a few years old. Is this planned obsolescence? It's been a time suck. 

Laptop keeps telling me I need a new battery.

HP battery check says my battery is "OK."

Battery does not run for more than 45 mins to 1 hour.

Even the guy at the repair shop could not find the part for me.

Any help appreciated.

And we can't find it for you either with the limited info you have given. HP has made Pavilions since the mid-90s. HP Parts Store only sells batteries for a few months after the laptop is brand new. HP is in the laptop business not in the replacement battery business but they do sell off what they have left after the production run. After that, batteries are sold by resellers and on the internet by battery vendors.

Not sure what the repair shop guy's experience with this is but there is about a 98% chance I can find your battery and likely it will be less expensive than you think. 

So please give us a picture of the battery label or the Product or model number of the laptop.

There are two model numbers on the label: Model: 15-cc123cl and Model: 3168NGW

Your Service Manual 

You may want to give the Manual to your repair guy just to be sure he knows how to do this. See p. 37-39
