I'd like to know why a new laptop 2018 model doesn't support NVMe?  Why ??????? This is crazy.  The SATA ssd m.2 are so slow in comparison. I bought a Samsung EVO 970 plus thinking it would support it.  Nope, my laptop won't even turn on with it in.

Why would HP make a new computer and not support a new, faster ssd??????????

Hi,

Yes, it only supports M2 SATA3 SSD as we can see in the service manual.

The "why" part is difficult to answer. Some computers come without any M2 slot and some come with M2 PCIe NVMe slot. It all depends on what you purchase. In theory, modern notebooks are not customer upgradable (even if it is possible) with the idea that you get what you purchase.

An M2 SATA3 SSD will still be much faster than an HDD and it is not the actual max speed of the SSD which is essential for the performance unless you are constantly moving large files. So, access times and small file speed will be more important.
