Device Information: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook, PC. Entertainment Quad Edition. Model No. dv61-7000.

Driver Information: Original, Ra-Link RT5390R 802.11b/g/n 1X1. Wireless Wi-fi LAN Adapter Driver.

Re: Wi-fi Adapter Driver Update.

Novice here!

My first attempt at downloading an update and transferring it over to the above mentioned device.  I chose this older laptop for one simple reason. If I screw it up... It didn't cost me a dime! That being said... I turn to you (HP's Support Community) for your assistance in my journey.

I did a little research and found the following Wi-fi Driver update... RaLink, RT5390R/RT5390 802.11b/g/n. Version: 5 0.53.0 71500/sp71421.exe, Package 15a 32bit. I'm pretty sure this is the latest Window 7 Professional, driver update available to date.

Here's my problem... I have no idea as to what to do next. Realistically, after I download the updated version said wi-fi adapter... I'll be up such-n-such a creek... Without a paddle!

What I need from you guys is... simple step-by-step instructions showing me

Yes, that is the latest W7 driver HP has for that model Wi-Fi card.

The driver is good for both W7 32 and 64 bit.

MediaTek (Ralink) 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN Adapter Driver

5.0.53.0

sp71421.exe

Download the file by clicking the above driver link and save the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).

Copy the file you downloaded to a USB flash drive.

Plug the flash drive into your dv6-7000's USB port.

Copy the file to your PC's Windows desktop via a USB flash drive.

Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

If a message box titled Program Compatibility Assistant is displayed after the installation is complete, click This program installed correctly.

After the installation is complete, restart the notebook.
