Pavilion 17-e072sr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I have a laptop HP Pavilion 17-e072sr.

Currently it has wifi card Ralink RT3290 in it.

I want to replace it with a different wifi card with higher connection speed and 5G support.

Are the cards below compatible with HP Pavilion 17-e072sr?

  1. Atheros QCA9377
  2. MPE-8265AC
  3. Intel MC-AC7265
  4. Intel 7260HMW

They all look similar to Ralink RT3290, however I heard that many wifi cards are incompatible with HP / Lenovo and some other laptops due to BIOS whitelist issues.

Hi:

I am pretty sure that this card will work...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260AN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi + BT4.0    HP Part # 717381-001

Hi, thanks for your reply.

If this card is compatible

  • Intel Dual Band Wireless-N   7260AN   802.11 a/b/g/n   2x2 WiFi + BT4.0 HP Part # 717381-001

can there be any problems with this one?

  • Intel Dual Band Wireless Card 7260   7260HMW   802.11ac/a/b/g   Mini PCI-E 2.4G/5Ghz Wlan Wifi Bluetooth-compatible 4.0  Antenna

I see the second one has 802.11 ac, while the first one doesn't. Is this a problem?

Is there any significant difference between these two cards?

Ok, thank you!

Just to clarify, is this some special version of 7260 ac card, that is compatible with HP laptops, or is this just regular 7260HMW ac card, like for exapmle this one:

I ask this, since at aliexpress the seller says this card may not work with HP.

Anytime.

I think you should buy the card with the part number I posted...

The SPS # of the card in your link is 784639-005.

It may or may not work.  I can't say for sure.

You can get the card with the part number I posted on eBay, and this seller ships to the Russian Federation...

Please post back and let us know how it went.

So...

It worked. Results on the screenshots below (WiFi itself is 300 mbps)

Additionally:

  1. ping issue has been fixed: with Ralink card ping used to rise up to 1700 ms once in about 10 seconds – now this issue seems to be gone
  2. I now have Bluetooth working: with Ralink I had to use USB Bluetooth module since Bluetooth on the laptop didn't work at all

No driver installation was needed btw. WiFi started working right after I had inserted the module.

Paul_Tikkanen, I would like to give a lot of thanks to you. Had it not been for your advice, I would have probably ordered some other card that might have not worked on a HP laptop. So, thank you very much. Wish you all the best in this life!

You're very welcome, and thanks for letting us know that the Intel AC card worked in your notebook.

I you want, you can install the last wifi and bluetooth drivers Intel released for that model wifi card...They will be newer than the default drivers that W10 installed.
