HP Pavilion 13-a010dx x360 Convertible PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an HP Pavilion 13-A010DX laptop with a Qualcom 802.11n wireless card. I'd like to upgrade this and have seen two possibilities:

1) use a stock Intel AC 3160 802.11ac 1x1 card (HP p/n 710662-005) that was listed as an option in the user manual, OR

2) use a faster Intel  AC 7260 2x2 card (HP p/n 710661-001).

I have seen references to a change of wifi card requiring the removal of stock drivers and/or the 7260 just not working.

Can anyone confirm if the 7260 will work in this machine and what exactly would be required to make either the 3160 or 7260 compatible with the 13-A010DX system?

Thanks in advance.

@CaliforniaKram

Your machine was built around 2014, due to the whitelist in BIOS you can only use

  • Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11ac 1×1 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter part # 710662-005
  • Qualcomm Atheros AR9565 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter part #  733476-005

The first one supports 5GHz networks and you don't need to change antenna

Thanks very much Banhein!

Great to know the limitation before buying a part.

I now have the Intel AC-3160 802.11ac 1x1 wifi card but have not installed it yet.

If I have an Intel processor, and am replacing a Qualcom 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 card, do I need to download a different driver before installing it?

And if so, does the driver for the Qualcom card need to be deleted?

Thanks in advance.
