The external Samsung SSD T7 you asked about will work.
Your Chromebook is part of a series that has an group of NAND flash chips and a simple storage controller that make up the eMMC storage device you think of as your "hard drive". The eMMC memory is soldered, or integrated into the chipset of the Chromebook's system board.
The eMMC storage device is not something that can be upgraded.
There is no physical space in the Chromebook for an actual hard disk or SSD.
You can purchase a fast micro SD card to use as extra storage.
A microSD card is actually far more practical than an external USB SSD.

It will plug right into the microSD memory card reader on the left side of your Chromebook and you can leave it there.
