Some keys on pavilion keyboard work sometimes and not others. Del, Home, End, left arrow, right arrow. Found this "solution" from a supposed HP employee, dated 2018. Poster reported it solved the problem for him. If do this procedure am I going to wipe out Windows and my data or is this only a power thing? Here is a copy/paste of the procedure I found. Note the main keys of those listed are the problem. If I turn off the keypad, the equivalent keys on the keypad do work.
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Read the instructions at the link below for how to power reset a notebook with a non-removable battery:

Doing this procedure should have no effect on Windows, or the file contents on your notebook's drive.

Unfortunately the problem is still there after doing the reset. After the 15 (went about 20 to 25) seconds holding down the power key I plugged in the accessories again and then connected the power cord. I don't guess that sequence should matter? When I open notepad and key a bunch of gibberish then try those keys, they work only sporadically. If I hit, for example, the Del key over and over it will perform a delete a few times and do nothing a bunch of times.
When I turn off numlock on the keypad the keypad equivalents (Del, etc.) work fine. But not the regular of those keys.
I had high hopes this procedure would fix this for me.

Thanks for trying. If I did the procedure again but removed the battery after the power plug could that make a difference? I guess the idea is to push the power button to use up the residual power (not sure I know what I am talking about) so maybe having the battery still in place doesn't allow that to happen. Shouldn't hurt to try that, right?
