My two weeks old HP Victus 15 (r5 5600h + RTX 3050) is experiencing thermal problems. It is reaching 90-101 degree Celsius during loading screens in certain games. The laptop was manufactured in June 2024, so I'm assuming that the stock thermal paste is either of poor quality or has dried up. Will getting it replaced void my warranty if I get it done from the authorized service center or from somewhere else?
I live in India if that's required.
Also, will adding another stick of ram will result in the warranty getting void?

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Thank you for reaching out. I'll address your concerns one by one:
Thermal Issues:
It’s normal for gaming laptops to experience higher temperatures during intense gaming or loading screens, but hitting 90–101°C consistently could indicate a thermal issue. Since your laptop is only two weeks old, I recommend these steps before considering hardware changes:
- Update the BIOS and drivers: Ensure everything is up to date using the HP Support Assistant or manually from the HP website.
- Adjust performance settings: Set the laptop to "Balanced" mode in Windows or tweak the HP Command Center for better thermal management.
- Use a cooling pad: This can help reduce temperatures during gaming, such as this Amazon-India example: Tecknet N8 Laptop Cooling Pad with 3 Fans for 12-17" Laptops - Buy Tecknet N8 Laptop Cooling Pad wit....
If the issue persists, I suggest contacting HP support to evaluate the thermal performance. They may recommend repairs or adjustments, which will be covered under warranty as long as the device has no unauthorized modifications.
Replacing Thermal Paste:
Replacing thermal paste yourself or through an unauthorized service center may void the warranty, as it involves opening the laptop and handling internal components. However:
- If you get it done through an HP Authorized Service Center, it should not void the warranty, as the service will be carried out by certified technicians.
- I highly recommend contacting HP Support for guidance and ensuring they approve any thermal paste replacement to maintain warranty compliance.
Adding Another RAM Stick:
Adding another stick of RAM will not void the warranty, provided:
- You don’t damage any components during the upgrade.
- The RAM stick is compatible with your laptop.
However, any issues caused by third-party RAM (e.g., malfunctions or incompatibility) won’t be covered by the warranty. Always handle the upgrade with care, and consult your user manual for instructions.
Next Steps:
- For thermal paste replacement or repairs, contact an HP Authorized Service Center in India to avoid warranty complications.
- If you decide to add RAM, ensure it matches the specifications of the existing module for optimal performance (e.g., frequency, size, and type).
I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance.
Kind Regards,
