Hp 8440p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I own a hp 8440p i5-540m 8gb 320gb intel hd

currently dual boot win 7 and Ubuntu. I’m seeking to find out the best way for win 10 install as I’ve seen issues where win 10 with the intel hd causes issues. Has anyone managed to successfully install win 10 on the machine?

If Intel HDD is a concern, you can replace it with another brand of HDD or SSD, and install Win10/Ubuntu on the new drive.

Eg. A new Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SATA-3 SSD set you back $85.

Hello,

The HDD is fine, the intel HD GPU integrated was what I was referring to as this model isn’t the discrete GPU. I’ve seen issues with the win 10 builds on 8440p but not with the win7. All the drivers are win7 based hence the ask to the HP community if there’s a fix or if the issues were fixed before I take the plunge and update to win10 from win7 ultimate.

Further to the HDD I’ve seen 1tb max fitted so no issue in upgrade from 320gb to 1tb

By problem I presume you mean driver issue?

If so, download Intel Driver & Support Assistant. It will auto detect your hardware and will download the correct driver for your OS, Win 7 or Win 10.

I think that’s where the problem lies. From my searching for the i5-540m and the onboard intel hd GPU there doesn’t appear to be drivers available for win 10 however the non intel GPU the nvidia ones are able to run win10

the intel gpu exhibits blank screen so running a driver search is a challenge
