HP Pavilion x360 - 14m-ba015dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We own a 2017 Win10 Pavilion x360 Notebook with an Intel i3-7300 2.4 CPU plus 8GB of memory and would like to upgrade to a new Intel i3 CPU to enable a complete Win11 install.

Does anyone know if the Pavilion x360 series like mine will eventually be enabled/approved by HP/Microsoft to use Win11?  Some Internet forums hint that unknown future releases of Win11 may allow older Notebooks like mine the scaled-back use of some Win11 features, but I can't confirm this.

When I ran the Microsoft PC Health Check to assess Win11 upgrade compatibility, the App says my Intel i3-7300 2.4 CPU  is not compatible with Win11 at this time for some undisclosed reason.  The HP Support website for the Pavilion x360 with an i3-7300 also does not explain why the CPU cannot be upgraded with a Win11-compatible CPU.

I am confused why HP will not enable this Intel i3-7300 2.4 CPU  to be used with Win11 - other than it is a possible HP sales tactic placing the fear of obsolescence in the minds of Notebook Buyers to sell more new computers.  I am also unsure what are the main differences between my i3-7300 2.4 CPU, when compared to newer i3 CPUs that can be used with Win11.

It appears the following similar Intel i3 processors are currently recommended by Microsoft for use with Win11:

Its specs

     https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05811936

It ONLY has  7th Generation Intel® Core™ i3-7100U Processor which is does NOT meet hardware requirement for Windows 11. That is a choice from Microsoft, we can't do anything about that.

You can install Windows 11 (your choice) using

Installing Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements

>>>>> It appears the following similar Intel i3 processors are currently recommended by Microsoft for use with Win11

Yes they are. They are all from Gen 8 up. Processor of your machine is from Gen 7 (it doesn't matter i3 or i5 or i7).

Regards.

Thanks for the reply but IMHO, your blaming Microsoft and not including HP for restricting Win11 use on the Intel i3-7300 platform seems misguided...  HP webpages do not say if Pavilion x360 testing and drivers for use with Win11 has been attempted or will be completed in the near future.   HP needs to be more forthright with its customers with specific reasons why earlier versions of the Intel i3 platform before the i3 8000 CPU series are not compatible with Win11.

It appears that HP requires but does not say on their website that non-supported CPUs like my i3-7300 must install a new purchase of Win11 from Microsoft (not HP) ***at the computer owners' risk*** and is not available through Windows Update that is tested and pre-approved by HP.  The Installing Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements webpage you suggest does not suggest alternative ways I could/should obtain Win11 through the Windows Update service to install on my HP Pavilion x360 Notebook with an i3-7300 CPU because the Windows Update attempt always fails to install.

The >>>>> It appears the following similar Intel i3 processors are currently recommended by Microsoft for use with Win11 webpage you mention only shows Intel i3 Gen 8 processors or newer & does not discuss Win11 OS compatibility with i3 Gen 7 CPUs like mine.  Apparently HP has only listed some HP Business PCs and Notebooks for use with Win11 (?Pro version only?), but does not seem to list any testing results for Win10 Home with non-business Notebooks or desktop computers.

It is said that the computer hardware purchases are often required by the software you want to use.  Once again, I wonder if HP and Microsoft are silently using "forced obsolescence" of win10 (i.e. less secure OS and less frequent Win10 software updates according to Microsoft) to require HP users of older computer equipment to purchase newer HP computer hardware to run the supposedly safer versions of Win11.
